Major Service
EITAIKYO
Perpetual Memorial Service

We traditionally celebrate Eitaikyo each year in November. Eitaikyo is a
Japanese Buddhist observance that allows us to remember those who have
come before us to share the Nembutsu teachings.

Typically we invite a guest speaker to help us observe this  important event.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION of "EITAIKYO." The direct translation of Eitaikyo is
"Perpetual Sutra Chanting." This phrase suggests our participation with past
and future generations that allow us to hear the Buddha's teachings.

Eitaikyo List and Eitaikyo Fund

Central to the observance is the Eitaikyo list and fund. The Eitaikyo list
records members and their families who have donated to Eitaikyo fund. The
Eitaikyo fund provides a stand-alone fund for preservation  of the temple in
the face of emergencies or other situations. (It is not used for ordinary
operating expenses of the temple.) Each year the list is read as part of the
Eitaikyo service as members come forward to offer incense.

To arrange for your family to be added to the Eitaikyo list,
please contact the
tepmle for more information. (Each year the November Bussei Script will include
information about Eitaikyo as well. Typically the newsletter includes two
envelopes for donations -- one for the Eitaikyo service, and the other for the
Eitaikyo fund.)
