President Message

I would like to personally thank all of you who helped with our Japanese
Cultural Bazaar on June 6th.  I feel it was a great success with the variety of
foods, entertainment and displays.  Secondly, I have to thank LuAnn Lee and
her co-chairs for all of the hard work and long hours required to make this a
successful event.  There are many behind the scenes tasks that are done by a
myriad of volunteers to make this event run smoothly.

On May 29th, I accompanied Reverend Mukojima and Mrs. Fumiko Ohara on
the Imperial Valley Memorial Day Cemetery Ser-vices.  It was quite an
experience visiting the cemeteries at Calexico, El Centro and Brawley.
Mukojima Sensei had a brief service at each site.  At the Calexico cemetery, we
had to upright a couple headstones that had fallen during the April 4 earthquake.
In El Centro and Brawley, it was nice to see some of the local pioneers attend
the services to pay their respects to their loved ones.  The Imperial Valley
Japanese-American community has had impact on our current Temple as much
of our current Onajin was from the old El Centro Buddhist Temple.

This year keeps moving on quickly.  Obon Service and Obon Odori will be
coming up this month.  I look forward to see you and as always, feel free to write
or speak to me about any concerns or issues that affect the Temple.
